IIT Bombay Admissions

IIT Bombay MBA Admission Process
- The admission process for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay, requires prospective candidates to undertake the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted annually by the IIMs.

IIT Bombay MBA Eligibility Criteria
Applicants seeking admission must hold a four-year Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree in any discipline, with either first-class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate for all years/semesters. Alternatively, a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 for SC/ST candidates) out of 10 is acceptable. The degree should be from universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India, or from other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament, or declared as deemed universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Equivalent qualifications recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, are also eligible.
- Candidates with a first-class Bachelor's degree in any discipline, securing 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) in aggregate for all years/semesters or having a minimum CPI of 6.5 (6 for SC/ST candidates) out of 10, are eligible to apply if they hold professional qualifications like CA (Chartered Accountancy), CS (Company Secretary), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), ICWA (Cost and Works Accountancy), or FRM (Financial Risk Manager).
- Those who are in the process of completing their final degree examination can also apply. However, their admission will be considered on the condition that they meet the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned in (1) or (2) at the time of joining the course.
IIT Bombay MTech Admission Process
To gain admission to the M.Tech course at IIT Bombay, applicants are evaluated based on their GATE scores. Candidates must participate in the GATE examination and achieve a qualifying score to qualify for consideration. Below is the detailed procedure for IIT Bombay M.Tech admission:

IIT Bombay MSc Eligibility Criteria
Candidates qualifying in JAM must meet the following Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for admission to IITs:
- All candidates admitted through JAM must possess a Bachelor's degree.
- The candidates must have successfully PASSED the qualifying degree examination. In cases where a candidate is promoted without a mark sheet, the promotion certificate or a document accompanying it, duly signed by the Head of the Institute, must mention the subjects taken in that semester/year to assess the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) required for admission to a specific program.
- Foreign nationals with Indian degrees are eligible to apply, subject to the policy of the admitting institute.
- If the CGPA/CPI is on a different scale, it will be linearly mapped to a 10-point scale.
- For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalence in percentage of marks will be determined by the Admitting Institute(s).
- Proof of having passed the Qualifying Degree with the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) specified by the Admitting Institute should be submitted.
- At admission, all admitted candidates must submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. Additionally, the admitted candidates may need to undergo a Physical Fitness test conducted by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. If candidates are found not physically fit to pursue their chosen course of study, their admission is subject to cancellation.
NOTE:
- It is solely the responsibility of the candidates to provide evidence that they meet the Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) and Eligibility Requirements (ERs) for admission.
- The Admitting Institute reserves the right to cancel the admission of candidates who are found to have been admitted to a Program to which they are not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible by the prevailing rules and regulations.
IIT Bombay Ph.D. Admission process
- Admission to the program is granted based on an interview typically conducted a month before the start of the semester for which admission is sought. If necessary, a written test may also be conducted in addition to the interview.
- It is important to note that meeting the general eligibility criteria and specific criteria for each admission category does not guarantee an invitation for the test/interview.
- Depending on the number of applications received and considering time and resource constraints, the Academic Units may establish additional shortlisting criteria based on academic performance.
- Candidates invited for the written test/interview under the Teaching Assistantship (TA) category will receive reimbursement for a single second-class return railway fare, following the shortest route (as per rules), from their place of residence to the Institute.
- This reimbursement applies only to candidates belonging to the SC/ST and PwD categories.
- Candidates must provide evidence (Original/Photocopy of Railway Ticket) to support their claim.
- If a candidate is invited for multiple disciplines, they can only submit one claim for reimbursement.

IIT Bombay PhD Application Process
- The application process for the Ph.D. program at IIT Bombay is conducted online. To ensure a successful application, candidates must follow the step-by-step procedure outlined below:
- Visit the official website of IIT Bombay where you will find the application form and information brochure.
- The application must be submitted online, and no downloadable forms are available. After completing the form, it is recommended that you take a printout for your records.
- Upload the required documents as per the provided instructions. Complete all sections of the application form, as incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Candidates can apply for up to three disciplines/specializations. Along with the application, a Statement of Purpose or a Research Proposal must be submitted, as required by the academic unit. Please note that applications without a research proposal of 1500 words will not be considered.
- If you belong to the Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) category, you must upload the OBC-NC certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed format. - Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates can request additional time for the application process, as per the rules set by the Government of India. Such requests should be sent well in advance via email or hard copy to the Head of the concerned academic units.
- Seats are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Other Backward Class Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwD) categories, by the Government of India rules.

IIT Bombay Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for Ph.D. in IIT Bombay have three following criteria
A. Educational qualifications To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
(i) Hold a B.E/B. Tech or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) and possess a minimum of two years of work experience.
(ii) Hold a Master of Management/ME/M.Tech/M.Pharm/M.Phil/2-year MBA or a 2-year PG Diploma in Management from a recognized institute (AICTE/UGC/AIU) with a minimum of 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST).
(iii) Hold an Executive MBA of at least one-year duration from IITs/IIMs or a recognized institute (AICTE/UGC/AIU) with a minimum of 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST).
(iv) Hold an M.Sc/M.A/M.Com/LLM/MCA or equivalent degree with a minimum of 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) at the postgraduate level.
(v) Hold a Chartered Accountant or Company Secretary qualification with a minimum of 60% marks/6.5 CPI (55% marks/6.0 CPI for SC/ST) in the preceding degree/Bachelor's degree (B.Com/B.Com/BA/B.Sc).
B. Aptitude test scores Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
(i) Have qualified in UGC-JRF/UGC-NET/CSIR-JRF/CSIR-NET during the last 5 years. OR (ii) Have taken GATE/CAT/GMAT/GRE during the last 5 years and achieved minimum percentiles/marks as specified below GATE: 75 percentile overall; CAT: 75 percentile overall; GMAT: 600 marks; GRE: 300 marks.
Note: Applicants with MBA/PGDM/M. Tech from institutes of national importance awarded in the last 5 years will be exempted from the requirements under B.
C. Research proposal criteria:
Applicants must submit a research proposal (1500 words) on a topic of their interest in place of a Statement of Purpose. The research proposal should include a) problem identification, b) a brief review of the literature, and c) methodology. Applications without a research proposal will not be considered.
IIT Bombay Document Requirements for Ph.D. Admission
- Scanned photograph -Scanned signature
- Mark sheet of the last semester or consolidated mark sheet of the qualifying degree. Result-awaiting candidates should upload their latest or previous semester mark sheet.
- Caste certificate (OBC-NC/SC/ST) if applicable. If the certificate has not been received yet, an affidavit stating the application for the certificate should be submitted.
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates must submit an EWS certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed format.

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program at IIT Bombay, applicants must fulfill the following eligibility criteria simultaneously:
1. Age Limit:
The candidate should have been born on or after:
- October 1, 1998, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category.
- October 1, 1993, if belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD category.
2. UCEED Qualification:
The candidate should have qualified for UCEED and obtained a rank in the exam.
3. Qualifying Examination:
- The candidate should have passed all five subjects in the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent)
- Proof of passing the qualifying examination with the required eligibility should be submitted to the admitting institute.
- In case the grade sheet only provides letter grades without information on the passing grade, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying the passing grade and upload it along with the grade sheet. If such a certificate is not provided, the decision of the UCI Committee will be final.
- Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects are eligible to apply to IIT Bombay.
- Candidates from any other stream (Science without Mathematics Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are also eligible to apply to IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay MDes Admission Process
The admission process for the MDes program at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay, follows the steps outlined below:
- CEED (Qualifying Exam for MDes): Candidates must apply with a valid CEED score and complete discipline-specific tasks assigned for their respective streams.
- IDC-CEED Merit List: Category-wise merit lists are prepared for each stream, including AN, CD, ID, IN, and MD.
- Shortlisted Candidates: Shortlisted candidates are called for a written test (B) and interview (C) at IDC School of Design.
- Final Merit List Score: A final merit list score is determined based on performance in the written test and interview.

IIT Bombay IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the MDes (Master of Design) program at IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Qualification: Candidates should have a minimum of 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates) or equivalent grades in the qualifying degree for their respective streams.
- Qualifying Examination: Candidates must have qualified through the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED).

To be eligible for admission to the M.S. program in Computer Science at IIT Bombay, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- B.E./B.Tech./AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline.
- M.Sc. or equivalent in any science discipline.
- MCA (with Physics & Mathematics at B.Sc. level) or equivalent in Computer Science.
Additionally, a valid GATE score in Computer Science (CS) is required for all applicants, except commissioned officers of the armed forces and those who have a B.Tech. degree in CS/CSE from IITs with a CGPA/CPI of 8.00 (on a 0-10 scale) and above.

To be eligible for the M.S. by Research program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at CMInDs (Center for Master of Science in Computational Science and Engineering), candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Candidates should have a first-class or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) in one of the following disciplines:
- B.E./B.Tech./AMIE or equivalent in any engineering discipline.
- M.Sc. or equivalent in any science discipline.
- MCA (with Physics & Mathematics at B.Sc. level) or equivalent.
- Valid GATE Score: A valid GATE score is required in one of the following disciplines: AE, BM, BT, CE, CH, CS, CY, EC, EE, ES, IN, MA, ME, MN, MT, PH, PI, ST, XE, and XL.

Exemption for Commissioned Officers and IIT Graduates:
Commissioned officers of the armed forces and those who have a B.Tech. degree from IITs with a CGPA/CPI of 8.00 or above (on a scale of 0-10) are exempted from the requirement of a valid GATE score.

The Integrated MTech+PhD program is a unique and accelerated program designed for eligible students to pursue both M. Tech and Ph.D. degrees. It offers an opportunity to specialize in various interdisciplinary fields, providing a comprehensive and efficient academic journey.
IIT Bombay MTech + Ph.D. (Dual Degree) Admission Process
In addition to the M.Tech. program, IIT Bombay offers Dual Degree M.Tech.+Ph.D. programs in certain disciplines. The program has two admission routes:
