IIT Ropar Admissions

  1. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar provides admissions for various programs, including BTech, BTech+MTech, MTech, MSc, MS, and PhD. 
  2. Admission procedures at IIT Ropar are tailored to specific entrance exams. Aspiring BTech students must have valid scores in the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations, followed by counselling through JoSAA. 
  3. MTech and MS admissions rely on GATE Scores. 
  4. For MSc Admissions are based on performance in the JAM exam 
  5. For PhD Admissions, candidates have valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET scores, and written tests and interviews are carried out by a panel of experts at IIT Ropar.

IIT Ropar BTech Admission Process

  1. JEE Main: Candidates must appear for the JEE Main, which is conducted nationally. The exam assesses the candidates' Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics knowledge.
  2. JEE Advanced: Eligibility for JEE Advanced Only candidates qualified for the JEE Main exam can participate. The JEE Advanced is a more difficult exam that tests the candidate's problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
  3. JoSAA Counselling: Post the declaration of JEE Advanced results, candidates must complete the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling registration process. In counselling, candidates are allotted seats in IITs and other NITs based on their JEE Advanced rank and preferences.
  4. IIT Ropar Admission: IIT Ropar will release a list of shortlisted candidates after the JoSAA counselling process. Shortlisted candidates must participate in a personal interview and a written test. Candidates' ultimate selection will hinge on their performance in the JEE Advanced, coupled with the outcomes of both the personal interview and the written test.

IIT Ropar BTEch Eligibility Criteria

  1. Candidates must have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  2.  It is essential to attain minimum aggregate marks of 75% in the Class 12 (or equivalent) Board examination.
  3.  However, the requirement is slightly lower for SC, ST, and PwD candidates at 65%. Additionally, candidates must also qualify for the JEE Advanced examination.

IIT Ropar BTech Selection Criteria

  1. Their JEE Advanced rank and category will determine the candidate's final selection. 
  2. The JEE Advanced exam is conducted in two shifts, with the first shift designated for general category candidates and the second shift for SC, ST, and PwD candidates.

IIT Ropar MSc Admission Process

  1. Application: The application process is online. The application form can be found on the IIT Ropar website.
  2. Apply for the IIT JAM Entrance Exam: The IIT JAM entrance exam is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to MSc programs in various disciplines. The exam is held in two sessions.
  3. Counselling: Candidates who qualify for the MSc program will be invited for counselling. During counselling, candidates will be allotted seats based on their JAM score and specialisation preference.
  4. Admission: Candidates allotted seats in the MSc program must pay the admission fee and submit the necessary documents.

IIT Ropar MSc Eligibility Criteria

  1. To be eligible, applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from a recognised university or institute, with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (for General/OBC-NCL category)/at least 50% aggregate marks (for SC/ST and PwD category) a valid score in IIT JAM.

IIT Ropar MSc Selection Criteria

  1. The selection of candidates is determined by their performance in the IIT JAM entrance examination.
  2. The JAM exam is held in two sessions, one for mathematics and one for physics and chemistry.
  3. The cutoff for the MSc program at IIT Ropar is around 60% for mathematics and 70% for physics and chemistry.

IIT Ropar MTech Admission Process

  1. Please apply Online: Candidates can complete and submit their applications through the official IIT Ropar website.
  2. Register on the COAP Portal: The Common Offer and Acceptance Portal (COAP) is a centralised portal for admission to MTech programs in all IITs.
  3. Sit for the GATE Exam: The GATE exam is a national-level exam for admission to MTech programs in IITs and other engineering institutes. The GATE score is a criterion for admission to IIT Ropar MTech programs.
  4. Seat Allotment: Candidates will be allotted seats through the COAP portal. They can accept, reject or freeze the seats offered to them.
  5. Registration and Fee Payment: Candidates who have been allotted seats must register and pay the fees at the institute.
  6. Report to the institute: Once you have accepted the seat offer, you must report to the institute on the date mentioned in the offer letter.

IIT Ropar MTech Eligibility Criteria

  1. Students must possess a BE/B to be eligible for MTech admissions. Tech Degree in a relevant discipline or AMIE, Attaining a minimum aggregate of 60% (or 55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates)
  2. GATE-qualified candidates are also eligible for admission into the MTech program.

IIT Ropar MTech Selection Criteria

  1. Selection Process: The selection of candidates will be determined by evaluating their GATE score and CGPA and undergoing a departmental review. The GATE score is the most important criterion, followed by CGPA and departmental review.

IIT Ropar PhD Admission Process

  1. Application: The application process is online and can be found on the IIT Ropar website. 
  2. Entrance Exams: Candidates must have valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET scores in these relevant entrance examinations.
  3. Shortlisting: The applications will be shortlisted based on the candidate's academic record, GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET score, and research experience.
  4. Written Test: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to undertake a 2-hour written test. This assessment will encompass inquiries about the subject domain and gauge the candidate's research aptitude.
  5. Interview: Candidates who successfully clear the written test will proceed to the interview stage. The interview will be administered by a panel of subject matter experts specialising in the candidate's chosen field of interest.

IIT Ropar PhD Eligibility Criteria

  1. Regular PhD: Obtaining a Master's degree in a pertinent field with a minimum of 60% marks (or an equivalent of 6.5 Grade Points out of 10) in the Master's program. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree BE/B. Tech. (or MSc) in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 65% marks (or 7.0 Grade Point out of 10) and a valid GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET score.
  2. PhD Direct: Possession of a Master's degree in a pertinent field, accompanied by a minimum CGPA of 8.00 (out of 10.0) and a valid GATE score. A candidate with a Bachelor's degree from any IIT and a CGPA/CPI score of 8.00 (out of 10.0) or higher is eligible for an exemption from the GATE qualification requirement when applying.

IIT Ropar PhD Selection Criteria

  1. Selection of Candidates: The candidates will be selected based on their GATE/UGC/CSIR/NET scores, interview/written test performance, research proposal, and academic record.
