NIT Silchar Admissions
- NIT Silchar offers admissions or programs like BTech, MTech, MBA, MSc, and PhD.
- For BTech, Admission is based on the JEE Main scores followed by the JoSSA Counselling process.
- For the MTech, Admissions are based on GATE Scores.
- For MBA, admissions are based on the CAT/MAT/CMAT scores.
- MSc Admission is determined based on JAM Scores.
- PhD Admissions are obtained by these entrance GATE/CSIR NET/UGC NET/JEST/NBHM exams followed by the interviews and Written exams. The interviews are conducted by the panel of experts by NIT Silchar.
NIT Silchar BTech Admission Process
- Appear for JEE Main: All candidates aspiring to BTech at NIT Silchar must appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main. JEE Main is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
- Apply for JoSAA Counselling: Once qualified for JEE Main, you need to apply for the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling. JoSAA is a centralized counselling process for admission to various engineering colleges in India, including NIT Silchar.
- Select Your Preferred Colleges and Courses: In the JoSAA application form, you must select your preferred colleges and courses. You can select up to 100 colleges and courses in the order of your preference.
- Lock Your Choices: Once you have selected your preferred colleges and courses, you must lock your choices. Once you have locked your choices, you cannot change your application.
- Participate in JoSAA Counselling: JoSAA counselling is conducted in multiple rounds. In each round, you will be allotted a seat based on your JEE Main rank, your preferences, and the availability of seats.
- Accept Your Seat: If you are allotted a seat in a round of JoSAA counselling, you must accept the seat within the stipulated period. You must accept the seat to be considered for subsequent rounds of counselling.
- Report to the Allotted College: Once you have accepted your seat, you must report to the allotted college on the specified date. You must carry all the required documents, such as your JEE Main admit card, scorecard, and class 12th mark sheet.
NIT Silchar BTech Eligibility Criteria
- Qualifying Exam: To be eligible, you must have completed the 10+2 or an equivalent examination, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
- Minimum Marks: Obtained a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in the above subjects.
- National Level Exam: Qualified for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main.
- General/GEN-EWS/OBC: 75% aggregate PCM grade in 10+2.
- SC/ST/PwD: 65% aggregate marks in PCM in 10+2.

NIT Silchar MTech Admission Process
- Appear for GATE and Score a Valid GATE Score: The GATE score is required for all MTech applicants at NIT Silchar. The minimum GATE score required varies depending on the program and category.
- Register for CCMT Counselling: CCMT (Centralized Counselling for MTech) is a centralized counselling process for admission to MTech programs at NITs and other participating institutes. To register for CCMT counselling, visit the CCMT website and create an account.
- Fill out the CCMT Application Form.: The CCMT application form will require details, academic qualifications, GATE score, and preferred programs and institutes.
- Lock Your Choices: Once you have completed the CCMT application form, you must lock your choices. In order of preference, you must finalize the programs and institutes you are interested in.
- Participate in CCMT Counselling: CCMT will conduct multiple rounds of counselling. In each round, candidates will be allotted seats based on their GATE score, preferred choices, and the availability of seats.
- Accept Your Seat and Pay the Admission Fee: If you are allotted a seat in the CCMT counselling, you must accept it and pay the admission fee within the stipulated time.
NIT Silchar MTech Eligibility Criteria
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture or Master's in Science from a recognized university/institute with a valid GATE score in the relevant discipline.
- Minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying degree:
- General/OBC: 60%
- SC/ST/PwD: 55%
NIT Silchar MTech Selection Criteria
- Aspirants are required to participate in the GATE examination and achieve a valid rank.
- The board conducts a counselling procedure for the eligible candidates after the announcement of GATE scores.
- The COAP portal dispatches acceptance letters to the shortlisted candidates, followed by allocating seats in their preferred colleges.
NIT Silchar MBA Admission Process
- Pay the Application Fee: The NIT Silchar MBA admission application fee is ₹1000 for general/OBC candidates and ₹500 for SC/ST candidates. The application fee can be paid online through net banking, credit card, or debit card.
- Appear for and Score a Valid CAT/MAT/CMAT Score: The CAT/MAT/CMAT exam is conducted annually. It is a three-hour online exam that tests candidates on their quantitative ability, verbal ability, data interpretation and logical reasoning skills.
- Upload the Required Documents: Candidates are required to upload scanned copies of the following documents as part of their online application form:
- CAT/MAT/CMAT scorecard
- You should submit scanned copies of your Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation mark sheets and certificates.

- Category certificate (if applicable)
- Shortlisting of Candidates: Based on their CAT scores, the NIT Silchar MBA admission committee will shortlist candidates for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal interviews (PI). The shortlisted candidates will be notified through email.
- Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI): The GD round tests a candidate's communication and teamwork skills. The Personal Interview (PI) round is a one-on-one interview with a panel of faculty members. The PI round is designed to assess a candidate's overall personality, aptitude for management, and motivation for pursuing an MBA degree.
NIT Silchar MBA Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Qualification: Academic qualification: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% marks or an equivalent CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a 10-point scale in the overall aggregate.
- There is a relaxation provision of 5% marks or 0.5 in CPI/CGPA for candidates falling under the Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category.
NIT Silchar MBA Selection Criteria
- Their combined performance in the exam will determine the ultimate selection of candidates, GD/PI round, academic achievements (Class 10, Class 12, and Graduation), and any relevant work experience.
NIT Silchar MSc Admission Process
- Appear for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM): JAM is a national entrance exam for admission to MSc and PhD programs in various disciplines at NITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).
- Register for the CCMN Counselling: Once you have a valid JAM score, you must register for the Centralized Counselling for MSc. Programs in NITs (CCMN). The CCMN counselling process is conducted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
- Choose NIT Silchar as one of Your Preferred Institutes: While registering for CCMN counselling, you must choose NIT Silchar as one of your preferred institutes. You can also choose other NITs and CFTIs during the registration process.
- Participate in the CCMN Counselling: The CCMN counselling process is typically conducted annually. During the counselling process, you will be allowed a seat at one of the institutes you have chosen based on your JAM score and other factors.
- Accept the Seat and Pay the Admission Fees: Once you have been allotted a seat at NIT Silchar, you must accept and pay the admission fees by the specified deadline.
- Submit the Required Documents: After paying the admission fees, you must submit the required documents to NIT Silchar. The required documents typically include:
- JAM scorecard
- Class 10 and 12 mark sheets
- Graduation degree certificate and mark sheets

- Passport size photographs

NIT Silchar PhD Eligibility Criteria
- To qualify for the PhD program at NIT Silchar, a master's degree in the relevant field is a prerequisite, with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 on a 10-point scale, or an equivalent of 60% in terms of marks.
- For candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories, a minimum CPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale, or an equivalent of 55% in terms of marks, is necessary.
