IIT Guwahati [IITG] : Admissions

IIT Guwahati offers various courses: BTech, BDes,  MS, MSc, MTech, MDes, MBA, Dual degrees, and PhD Admissions to the BTech programs are based on the candidates' performance in the JEE Advanced examination. For the BDes program, the selection is based on the candidates' performance in UCEED, and for the MTech program, admissions are granted based on GATE scores. MSc admissions are conducted through JAM. MBA Admissions are based on CAT Scores, and PhD Admissions involve GATE, a written examination and an interview conducted by the IIT Guwahati panel of experts.

1. Application: Candidates must apply online through the JoSAA portal. 
2. Qualify JEE Main and JEE Advanced: Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for both the JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations. to be eligible for admission to IIT Guwahati.
3.  JEE Advanced: The JEE Advanced score is the most critical factor for Admission to BTech at IIT Guwahati. Candidates with a higher JEE Advanced score will have a better chance of getting a seat in their desired course.
4. JoSAA Counselling: Candidates will be shortlisted for JoSAA counselling after applying. This is a centralised counselling process conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). In this round, candidates will be allotted seats based on their JEE Advanced rank and the choices they have filled in the application form.
5. Document Verification: .After the seat allotment, candidates must undergo document verification. This will be done at IIT Guwahati. Applicants must present their original documents and self-attested copies during the verification process.
6. Admission: After completing the document verification process, candidates will be formally admitted to IIT Guwahati. They will be issued a letter of admission and must pay the admission fees.

1. The candidate must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board with compulsory Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects.
2. The candidate must have scored at least 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12.

1. A merit list will be created, classifying candidates by their All India Rank (AIR) based on the 12th exam results, JEE Main, and JEE Advanced/AAT scores.
2. Candidates must complete online registration on the official JoSAA website to participate in counselling.
3. Candidates are required to personally complete the process of choice filling and locking, prioritizing their branch preferences in descending order.
4. Seat allocation in each counselling round will be determined based on the cutoff criteria set by IIT Guwahati.

1. Apply for UCEED: The first step is to apply for the UCEED entrance exam. The application form can be filled out online on the UCEED website. The application fee is Rs. 2000 for general category candidates and Rs. 1000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
2. Take the UCEED exam: The UCEED exam is conducted in two phases. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions and portfolio evaluation.
3. Counselling: The counselling round for BDes at IIT Guwahati is conducted by the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for Design. In the counselling round, candidates are allotted seats based on their performance in the UCEED entrance exam and their preferences for the design disciplines IIT Guwahati offers.
4. Get admission: If you are successful in the personal interview, you will be offered admission to the BDes program at IIT Guwahati.

3. Written Test: Candidates who have qualified for the GATE exam are eligible to appear for the written test. IIT Guwahati conducts the written test and is of 2 hours duration. The questions are based on the GATE syllabus, and the difficulty level is moderate.
4. Interview: Candidates who have cleared the written test are invited for an interview. The interview is conducted by the concerned academic department/centre and is 30 minutes long. The interview is a chance for the candidates to showcase their knowledge and skills and convince the interviewers that they are a good fit for the program.

1. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (BE/BTech) or a Master's degree in Science (MSc) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum CPI of 6.0 on a 10-point scale or a minimum of 60% of total/aggregate marks.
2. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the minimum CPI is relaxed by 0.5 or 5% marks, respectively.

4. Shortlisting: The IIT Guwahati admission committee will shortlist candidates based on their scores in the IIT JAM examination.
5. Counselling: The shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling. In counselling, candidates will be allotted seats based on their scores in the IIT JAM examination and their program choice.

2. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the minimum aggregate marks or CPI requirement is relaxed by 5%.

4. Interview and Portfolio Round: Candidates who clear the DAT will be called for an interview and portfolio round. The interview will assess the candidate's creativity, problem-solving, and communication skills. The portfolio round will determine the candidate's design skills and portfolio.

2. Minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.0 on a 10-point scale (or 60% aggregate marks) for the Bachelor's degree.
3. A relaxation of 0.5 in CPI or 5% in marks is given to SC/ST/PwD candidates.

2. CAT Score: Based on the CAT score and academic performance, candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage of the selection process.
3. Personal Interview and Group Discussion: Applicants who make it to the shortlist will be invited for a personal interview and group discussion as part of the selection process. The group discussion will determine the candidate's ability to think critically and work in a team.

3. Provisional admission is granted to applicants in the final year of their graduation, provided they meet the required eligibility criteria by October of the academic year.

2. For some departments, a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 70% aggregate or 7.0 CPI is also eligible.
3. Relaxation of 0.5 CPI or 5% marks is available for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
4. A valid GATE score or NET-JRF in the relevant discipline is required for some departments.

1. The final selection of candidates will be based on a composite score obtained from the GATE/NET/CEED/INSPIRE score, research proposal, and interview.
