The former Government of Mysore established the Government Law College in Bangalore on July 1, 1948. Subsequently, the College was transferred to Bangalore University, and as of June 19, 1976, it has been recognised as University Law College, Bangalore, functioning as a constituent college. Since the academic year 1986-87, the University Law College, Bangalore, has been offering a 5-year integrated LL.B program. The Master's Degree Program in Law commenced in 1960-61 as an M.L. Degree course. Upon integration into Bangalore University in 1976, the PG Department of Law expanded its offerings to include LL.M. programs in five distinct branches: Business Law, Labour, Capital and Law, Environment and Legal Order, Criminal Law, and Constitution and Legal Order. These LL.M. programs have achieved significant success. The Department of Law is actively involved in research activities, awarding approximately 25 PhD degrees to candidates.
