IIT Palakkad Admissions
The Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad offers admission to various programs, including BTech, MTech, MSc, MS, and PhD. At the undergraduate level, admission to BTech courses is granted in five specializations through JEE Advanced scores and JoSAA counselling. MTech admissions are based on GATE scores, while the MSc. The program admission process at IIT Palakkad is facilitated through the JAM portal. While MS and PhD candidates must attain a valid GATE score. Alternatively, for the PhD program, candidates also have the option to appear for the UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM examinations, a written test, and a personal interview conducted by IIT Palakkad.
IIT Palakkad BTech Admission Process
- JEE Main: Candidates must qualify for JEE Main to be eligible for admission to BTech at IIT Palakkad.
- JEE Advanced: Only candidates with qualified JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced score is the primary factor for admission to BTech at IIT Palakkad.
- JoSAA Counselling: After the JEE Advanced results are announced, candidates will be invited to participate in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process. In JoSAA counselling, candidates can choose IIT Palakkad as their choice programme based on their JEE Advanced scores and ranks.
IIT Palakkad BTech Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one of the following subjects: Biology/Computer Science/Technical Vocational subject from a recognized board with at least 75% marks (70% for SC/ST/PwD) in aggregate.
- The candidate must have qualified for JEE Advanced.
IIT Palakkad MTech Admission Process
- Application: The application process for IIT Palakkad MTech programs is online. Candidates must apply through the IIT Palakkad PG Admission Portal.
- Shortlisting: IIT Palakkad will shortlist candidates based on their GATE scores and academic performance.
- COAP Counselling: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to participate in the COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) Counselling process. In COAP, candidates will be ranked based on their GATE score and academic performance. Candidates will be allotted seats in the MTech programs at IIT Palakkad based on their rank and available seats.
- Document Verification: After the COAP Counseling, candidates must submit the original documents for verification.
- Admission: Candidates who have completed the document verification process will be admitted to the MTech programs at IIT Palakkad.
IIT Palakkad MTech Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum aggregate of 60% marks from a recognized university.
- The candidate must have appeared for the GATE exam in the relevant discipline and scored at least 600 marks.
- The applicant should hold a valid GATE score in the current or two preceding years.
IIT Palakkad MSc Admission Process
- Apply for JAM: Candidates must appear for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and IITs
- Register for COAP: Candidates who have qualified for the JAM exam must register for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) counselling. The IITs conduct COAP Counselling to offer admission to MSc. Programs in various IITs.
- Select IIT Palakkad: In the COAP Counselling, candidates can select IIT Palakkad as their preferred choice for MSc. admission.
- Seat allotment: Based on the JAM score and the choices made by the candidates, IIT Palakkad will allot seats to the candidates.
- Submit documents: The candidates allotted seats by IIT Palakkad must submit the required documents to the institute.
- Pay the fees: The candidates must pay the tuition and other fees to IIT Palakkad.
- Join the program: After completing the document submission and fee payment process, the candidates can join the MSc. program at IIT Palakkad.
IIT Palakkad MSc Eligibility Criteria
- The candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (or equivalent) for the General Category and 50% marks (or equivalent) for the Reserved Category.
- Applicants in the final year of their Bachelor's degree are also eligible to apply.
- The candidate must have appeared for the IIT Joint Admission Test (JAM) and scored a minimum of 60% marks (or equivalent) for the General Category and 55% marks (or equivalent) for the Reserved Category.
- The candidate must have a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score for admission to the MSc. in Data Science program.
IIT Palakkad MS Research Admission Process
- Application: Candidates seeking admission can apply online on the institute's official website. The application fee is GN/OBC-NCL/EWS Male candidates: Rs.100, SC/ST and PwD candidates: Rs.50/-. The application fee is non-refundable2.
- Selection Procedure: Admissions will be granted based on a written test and personal interview conducted by the respective departments.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
- Reservation of Seats: Seats will be as per Government of India norms.
- Verification of Certificates: At the time of admission, candidates must produce all original certificates for verification
IIT Palakkad MS Research Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates with a four-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Sciences or a Master's degree in sciences with a valid GATE score in a relevant discipline.
- Candidates with an excellent academic record, having memberships in professional bodies, approved by the MoE/UGC/AICTE, are also eligible for admission to the MS programme of their parent discipline, provided they have a valid GATE score and have passed both part A and part B of the membership examinations.
- Candidates who have qualified for the award of a year Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Sciences from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an excellent academic record in an eligible discipline, provided he/she has a minimum CGPA of 8.0 (7.5 for OBC- NCL and 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD) on a 10.0 point scale.
IIT Palakkad PhD Admission Process
Apply online: The application process can be found on the IIT Palakkad website. The application fee is INR 2000 for General/OBC candidates and INR 1000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Submit application documents: Along with the application form, candidates must submit the following documents:
Proof of identity and nationality.
Graduation and Master's degree certificates.
GATE scorecard or UGC/CSIR-NET/NBHM scorecard.
Research proposal (for PhD).
Two letters of recommendation.
Shortlisting: Those candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria for shortlisting will receive an invitation to engage in a written examination and an interview process.
Written test and interview: The test will be conducted in the relevant discipline. A panel of experts in the relevant field will conduct the interview. The interview will assess the candidate's research skills, knowledge, and potential.
Selection: Based on the written test and interview performance, candidates will be selected for admission to PhD at IIT Palakkad.
IIT Palakkad PhD Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates having a Master's degree in Engineering/Technology/ Science with an excellent academic record and A valid GATE score or UGC/CSIR-LS & JRF/NBHM or an equivalent qualification.
- For direct admission to a PhD without a GATE score, the candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology from a Centrally Funded Technical Institute (CFTI) with an excellent academic record in an eligible discipline. The minimum CGPA required is 8/10 (7.5 for OBC- NCL and 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD on a 10.0-point scale).
