IIM Calcutta Admissions
IIM Calcutta, one of the premier management institutes in India, follows a rigorous admission process to select candidates for its esteemed MBA program. This article provides a detailed overview of the admission process, highlighting the key stages and criteria for selection.
IIM Calcutta Admission Process
Stage 1: CAT Registration and Exam: The first stage of the IIM Calcutta admission process begins with CAT (Common Admission Test) registration. Interested candidates to register for CAT also apply to IIM Calcutta using the same form. CAT is a nationwide entrance examination that assesses a candidate's aptitude in various areas, such as Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation, and Logical Reasoning.
Stage 2: Shortlisting for WAT-PI Process: After the CAT exam, IIM Calcutta releases a shortlist of candidates based on their CAT scores. The minimum CAT cutoff required for IIM Calcutta MBA admission is 85 percentile. However, it is important to note that the actual cutoff usually ranges between 98-99 percentile. Candidates who meet the cutoff criteria are shortlisted for the next stage.
Stage 3: Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI): The Group Discussion (GD) stage has been eliminated in the revamped admission process. Shortlisted candidates now proceed to the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) stages. During the WAT, candidates are assessed based on their writing skills and ability to express their thoughts effectively. The PI stage evaluates a candidate's overall profile, including their academic record, work experience, gender diversity, and performance in CAT and the PI itself.
Stage 4: Final Selection: The final selection for the IIM Calcutta MBA program is based on a composite score. The composite score is calculated by considering various factors, including the CAT score, PI performance, WAT performance, academic diversity, and work experience. A category-wise merit list is prepared based on these composite scores, and the candidates are ranked accordingly. The top-ranking candidates from each category are offered admission to the MBA program.
